Kilitbahir Castle (Turkish: Kilitbahir Kalesi) is a fortress on the west side of the Dardanelles, opposite the city of Çanakkale, where there is a corresponding fortress (Kale-i Sultaniye), from which Çanakkale takes its name.

Çanakkale Kilitbahir Castle Museum. It was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmed, together with Çimenlik Castle (of Kal'a-i Sultâniyye) in order to keep the sea passage under control on the Rumeli side of the Dardanelles.

Kilitbahir Castle, which was strengthened by other Ottoman sultans and added new sections in time, is a clover shape when viewed from the air. The castle, which was renovated for a long time until one or two years ago, was opened to visitors in its renewed form.

The castle resembles a clover leaf in shape from an aerial viewpoint, and is named Kilid-ül Bahir which means “Lock of the Sea”. Several historical works from the era of the Ottoman State may be found in the Kilitbahir Village which developed with the construction of the castle.

Reopened in 2019 as a museum focussing on Ottoman and maritime history, this sprawling castle was originally built by Mehmet the Conqueror in 1452 and given a grand seven-storey interior tower a century later by Süleyman the Magnificent.
