There is a vent that screws into the top flat cover plate on the gearbox through which one fills the gearbox until the oil leaks out the side plug port. My question is what do you do to drain the gearbox to get the old greenish colored very stinky gear oil out?

Nov 15, 2003 · I own a BEFCO C30 Rear Discharge finish mower and I have noticed that I am leaking gearbox oil out of the breather cap on top of the gearbox. I use the mower on a hill and I suspect that the oil that is leaking out (not a whole lot) is a result of the slope of the hill and the oil sloshing around in the gearbox when it is on the hill.

Oct 6, 2006 · The manual says, "The gearbox has been filled with lubricant to the proper level. . .The gearbox should not require additional lubricant unless the box is cracked or a seal is leaking." It tells how to check the level and add more oil if needed but not how to empty or change the oil. The gearboxes have a dipstick plug and a "test" plug on top.

Since it is required to remove the gearbox from the deck in order to drain the oil, I keep putting off the task, although my deck has about 700 operating hours on it.

Mar 6, 2006 · Also.. I prefer 85/140 wt oil in the gearbox.. though I'm sure 80w synthetic.. or 90w is FINE and won't hurt a thing. As was mentioned.. some people add a 0# grease or mix grease and a little gear oin in a leaky box. ( Some boxes actually spec a 0# grease... ) The infor ont he fill and level plug was good.

Aug 12, 2018 · Approximately 2011 85w140 gear oil was introduced as the recommended gear oil for all Rhino gearboxes. Today Rhino factory fills all gearboxes with Lucas Oil 85W140. Top off oil for the Lucas Oil or the original “000” can be any GL5 85W140 oil. Reference Part: 00786250 I hope that helps.
