There is a vent that screws into the top flat cover plate on the gearbox through which one fills the gearbox until the oil leaks out the side plug port. My question is what do you do to drain the gearbox to get the old greenish colored very stinky gear oil out?

Nov 15, 2003 · I own a BEFCO C30 Rear Discharge finish mower and I have noticed that I am leaking gearbox oil out of the breather cap on top of the gearbox. I use the mower on a hill and I suspect that the oil that is leaking out (not a whole lot) is a result of the slope of the hill and the oil sloshing around in the gearbox when it is on the hill.

It tells how to check the level and add more oil if needed but not how to empty or change the oil. The gearboxes have a dipstick plug and a "test" plug on top.

As was mentioned.. some people add a 0# grease or mix grease and a little gear oin in a leaky box. ( Some boxes actually spec a 0# grease... ) The infor ont he fill and level plug was good.
