Located just 15 minutes from the city centre, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens is at the heart of the city. Entrance to the Botanic Gardens is free and with over a million visitors a year, we are a must-see Christchurch attraction.

The Christchurch Botanic Gardens are open every day from 7am and admission is free. The Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre, open daily from 8.30am - 5pm, houses a gift shop with an array of locally sourced products, many with a botanical theme, as well as a café and a permanent interactive exhibition.

Established in 1863, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens encompass 33 hectares, the majority of which is inside the loop of the Avon River. Within this area is undoubtedly the finest collection of exotic and indigenous plants to be found anywhere in New Zealand.
