The threat of flash flooding returned to North Carolina on Thursday, only days after Tropical Depression Chantal dumped heavy rain across the central part of the state, flooding homes and highways and leading to dozens of rescues.

Michigan residents should prepare for a potentially stormy Saturday with a high risk of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across multiple regions of the state.

Our bigger concern will be the chance for flooding Saturday due to the heavy rainfall. We expect showers and storms to be very efficient at producing heavy rain. Due to this, there is a Slight Risk for flash flooding across a wide swath of the state.

Insurance brokers say more people are asking whether they should buy flood insurance -- even if they don’t live in a high-risk areas.

In areas that see rainfall and increased cloud cover, temperatures are expected to remain below seasonal averages into next week, providing some relief from the summer heat. However, much of central and southern Texas, areas in the recovery phase from the catastrophic flooding, will face dangerous heat instead of renewed flooding.

With a reprieve from wet weather late Thursday night, more rain and potential thunderstorms could be in store for Massachusetts before the weekend starts.
