California Governor Gavin Newsom wants state lawmakers to approve $2.5 billion in funding to assist emergency response efforts and help fund vast recovery plans from devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the fires in Los Angeles require a rebuilding response he's characterizing as a "Marshall Plan" for the region.

The Marshall Plan was the effort, headed by the U.S., to rebuild Europe after the destruction of World War II. Newsom has issued an executive order to suspend the state’s environmental laws and permitting requirements to aid wildfire victims to rebuild homes and businesses.
