Donald Rose, Britain's oldest World War II veteran and a highly decorated war hero, has passed away at 110. He participated in the D-Day landings and helped liberate Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

Donald Rose, the UK's oldest surviving World War Two veteran, has died at the age of 110. Erewash Borough Council, which presented Mr Rose with a freedom honour in May, confirmed the news on Friday.

Erewash Borough Council is funding the scheme using some of the £25 million government Town Deal cash awarded to help regenerate Long Eaton.
