Canada on Friday imposed sanctions on 14 current and former senior officials of the Venezuelan government, alleging that they had engaged in activities that have supported human rights violations in Venezuela.

A total of 69 individuals in Venezuela are now targeted by EU sanctions, including an asset freeze and a ban on travel to the EU. President Nicolas Maduro and his government have always rejected sanctions by the United States and others,

The United States on Friday imposed new sanctions on eight Venezuelan officials and increased to $25 million the reward it is offering for the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro on the day of his inauguration to a third term following a disputed election last year.
