Ohio’s Republican-controlled Senate on Wednesday approved legislation to bar transgender students from using school restrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity, sending the measure to Republican Gov.

Before the vote, LGBTQ advocates urged lawmakers to reconsider, saying trans students are already bullied and feel their safety is threatened.
