Marvel Rivals landed with a wide roster, boasting 33 heroes when it launched on December 5. Just over a month later, the hero shooter's received two additions to its lineup, thanks to the arrival of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman with the advent of Season 1.

NetEase has confirmed Marvel Rivals will receive a new hero every month and a half, but won't be adding enforced roles.

Marvel Rivals Game Director Guangyun Chen recently revealed that NetEase Games has no intention of introducing role queue in the game.

"The team wants every kind of player to enjoy the game in their own way," the director says. "So instead of just zeroing in on either tournament results or quick play, we’re going to take a broader look at the overall balance data on all the heroes in all the modes.

Game director Guangyun Chen revealed the plans in a recent interview with Metro. He said that “fresh seasonal stories, new maps, and new heroes” are on the way, with each new season broken into “two halves”. In “each half of the season, we will introduce a new hero,” he continued.

The free-to-play Marvel Rivals launched in early December with its full lineup available to all players, and it quickly found success. Season 1 began on 10th January 2025, adding Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman to the playable roster, as well as a new map, events, and more.

Jeff the Land Shark has probably one of the most infamous ultimates in Marvel Rivals. With the ability to swallow up any hero that gets caught up in the area of effect, friend or foe, and then launch them off the side of the map (or into an ulting Scarlet Witch—dealers choice).
