AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Saturday, the Austin Police Department confirmed it was investigating a homicide in southeast Austin. According to police, the initial call came in at approximately 4 a.m. for a fire in the 1700 block of Nelms Drive, near Interstate 35 and William Cannon Drive.
Austin homeless camp fire was attempt to cover up murder: APD
Police said on Jan. 4, around 3:50 a.m., officers responded to reports of a fire at a homeless camp in the green belt area near 1704 Nelms Drive. When officers and AFD arrived, they found the tent had been consumed by the fire. Near the tent, they found a body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
