President Donald Trump has terminated Dr. Anthony Fauci’s security detail that was being provided and paid for by the National Institutes of Health, a source familiar with the situation tells CNN. It was pulled on Thursday night.

Dr. Anthony Fauci has been stripped of his federal security detail despite ongoing threats to his life over his role in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump revoked security from three national security officials — including his former secretary of state — and Dr. Anthony Fauci this week. When asked about his decision, he told reporters: “You can’t have a security detail for the rest of your life because you work for government.”

President Joseph R. Biden Jr. had granted Bolton and another Trump national security adviser protection in 2021 after threats from Iran.

Following this development, Fauci, who continues to face threatenings due to his public-facing role during the Covid-19 pandemic, has now hired his own private security that he'll pay for himself.

Trump said he would not feel responsible if anything happened to Fauci as a result of his federal security clearances being cut.
