It sounds like the Atlanta Braves are still kicking the tires on a potential trade for Dylan Cease and/or Michael King, but they are far from alone in doing so.
The Atlanta Braves are checking on starting pitching talent along with the rival New York Mets. According to New York Mets on SI’s Pat Ragazzo, both teams, among others, are interested in Padres starting pitchers Dylan Cease and Michael King. The Mets are reported to have specifically spoken with the Padres.
The Atlanta Braves have not made any significant additions to their starting rotation despite losing Max Fried and Charlie Morton. The Braves could swing a trade to find an elite starter.
The Braves have another option to work with now should they choose to make a deal with the Padres this offseason
The New York Mets aren't done adding to the rotation. Pat Ragazzo from Sports Illustrated reports they have their eyes on a pitcher from the San Diego Padres.
The drama surrounding the San Diego Padres may have helped the Atlanta Braves land free agent Jurickson Profar.
Unfortunately, that pivot doesn't seem to be going all that well at the moment. Not only did Anthopoulos whiff on one of his top targets on Wednesday, but he let that target go to the team's fiercest rival. And even worse, he didn't seem to try all that hard to keep it from happening.
Late last spring, the 31-year-old switch-hitter re-signed with the Padres for $1 million plus incentives. It was his third tour with the team as he opted out of his deal after the 2022 season in search of a long-term deal. He ultimately landed with the Colorado Rockies only to rejoin the Padres in August 2023 after he was released.
As the MLB offseason continues, the Braves have signed free agent outfielder and former Padre Jurickson Profar to a deal.
While we await to see if the Braves will make a big trade ahead of Spring Training, let's look back at some all-time moves
The Atlanta Braves have already stolen free agent outfielder Jurickson Profar from the San Diego Padres, but they could look to poach Ha-Seong Kim, too.
