The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Matt Tomkins from the Syracuse Crunch, the team announced Thursday. Tomkins, a native of Edmonton, Alta., has spent the entire season with the Crunch, posting a record of 6-8-4 to go along with a 2.87 GAA and a .900 SP in 17 appearances.

Tomkins was called up as an insurance policy because Andrei Vasilevskiy (illness) was a game-time decision against Los Angeles on Thursday. However, Vasilevskiy was ultimately able to play, earning a 28-save shutout victory over the Kings. Tomkins has a 2.87 GAA and a .900 save percentage in 17 outings with Syracuse this season.
