The Chicago Cubs acquired Drew Pomeranz from the Seattle Mariners, putting another relief option in their minor league system. Chicago traded cash to Seattle for the 36-year-old Pomeranz, who hasn’t appeared in a big league game since 2021.

The Chicago Cubs announced Monday that they acquired Pomeranz, the 2010 No. 5 pick, from the Seattle Mariners for cash. Pomeranz, 36, is expected to join the first-place Cubs on Wednesday during their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pomeranz recorded a 4.66 ERA and 14-6 K-BB ratio over 9.2 innings at Triple-A Tacoma.

Pomeranz, 36, has had an interesting career. He was the fifth pick in the 2010 MLB Draft by Cleveland and was traded to the Rockies in 2011 as a player to be named later in deal that sent Ubaldo Jiménez to the Indians. Pomeranz made his major league debut with Colorado in September of 2011.
