JetBlue slapped with first-ever $2 million fine over ‘chronically delayed’ flights
The Department of Transportation fined JetBlue Airways $2 million for “operating multiple chronically delayed flights,” the first time an airline has been penalized for such a thing. The DOT investigation uncovered four flights that were chronically delayed between June 2022 and November 2023 for at least five straight months.

The Transportation Department said Friday it will hit JetBlue Airways with a $2 million penalty for chronically late flights along the East Coast, and half the money will go to passengers who were delayed.

Under the penalty, JetBlue must pay $1 million to the U.S. Treasury and use the remaining $1 million to compensate impacted passengers, the DOT says. Customers will receive at least $75 if they experience any future JetBlue delays of three hours or more within the next year.
