A video clip showing Georgia Bulldogs backup safety Jake Pope seemingly interacting with Ole Miss fans after a game has sparked controversy.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart had lots of praise for backup safety Jake Pope on Tuesday, just days after he criticized the player for appearing to celebrate with fans from the opposing team.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart said he went too far when he called backup safety Jake Pope an “idiot” for appearing to celebrate with Mississippi fans following the Bulldogs’ loss to the Rebels.

The Georgia Bulldogs suffered their second loss of the 2024 season this past Saturday as they were handled by the Ole Miss Rebels on the road. The loss was the Dawgs' first loss to a team not named Alabama since November of the 2020 football season and will sure cause the Bulldogs to plummet in tonight's rankings.

When the second College Football Playoff Rankings were released on Tuesday evening, Georgia found itself in an unfamiliar spot: left out. The Bulldogs were No. 12, marking their lowest spot in the CFP Rankings since Kirby Smart's first season in 2016.
