Mayor Wanda Williams says she wants to preserve the legacy of the market while revitalizing it for the future.

The latest projected reopening date for the Broad Street Market’s brick building is May 1, 2027 — nearly four years after the building burned — Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams said Thursday. Market vendors said that’s significantly later than city leaders told them recently.

Thursday's press conference was held three weeks after the city unveiled controversial plans for a third building at the market.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The City of Harrisburg has revealed more information on the future of the Broad Street Market. "The first thing anyone is going to see work on is the brick building," said David Baker, the city's Director of Facilities and Special Projects, at a news conference Thursday.

The Trump administration also directed government agencies to draw up plans for firing workers in DEI roles. "It just makes no sense at all," said Andrew Weissmann, who also predicted how it could spectacularly backfire.
