Garner won't be the first person to play the Silver Surfer in a live-action film. In 2007's "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer," the body work of the Surfer was done by Doug Jones while Laurence Fishburne voiced the herald.

Audiences got a first look at Garner as Silver Surfer when the trailer was released last week. It features Garner gliding above the city on her floating surfboard. Before the film, the Emmy Award-winner said she familiarized herself with the "Fantastic Four" and "Silver Surfer" comics.

Like the Marvel comics, Shalla-Bal is the herald of Galactus, a planet-devouring behemoth who is voiced by Ralph Ineson in the movie. She’s covered from head to toe in shiny silver and flies around on a cosmic surfboard, which means Garner had to do motion capture for the first time in her career.
