Public health officials are monitoring a new strain of COVID-19, now called the cicada, because of its long incubation period.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – New research from the Ohio State University College of Medicine suggests that the severity and breadth of sensory dysfunctions in long COVID-19 may be influenced by a patient’s age, initial COVID-19 severity and cognitive functions.
Researchers are still determining the cause of these extended symptoms, but some COVID-19 "long-haulers" may actually be dealing with a known condition, called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.
A study published Wednesday shows that the early U.S. death toll during the COVID-19 pandemic was higher than previously recorded. The journal Science Advances found that more than 155,000 unrecognized additional deaths outside of hospitals between March 2020 and December 2021 likely went uncounted.
