The Wisconsin state legislature passed a proposal that could enshrine voter ID requirements in the state constitution if Wisconsin voters support it at the ballot box in April. The proposal passed 54 to 45 along party lines in the state Assembly,

Wisconsin's photo ID requirement for voting would be elevated from a state law to a constitutional amendment under a proposal approved Tuesday in the Republican-controlled Assembly with no support from Democrats.

Wisconsin voters will decide if there should be a state constitution requirement to produce valid photo identification for future elections.

Voter ID laws are another measure Wisconsin GOP lawmakers look to amend in the constitution, and by Spring of 2025. The law that is more than a decade old is something state assembly members Rob Summerfield, Clint Moses and Duke Tucker call popular and common sense for election security.
