A massive winter storm system brought large amounts of heavy snowfall to Western Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh region. Parts of the area south of Pittsburgh received the heaviest amounts of snowfall.

The National Weather Service says it's likely most of the Pittsburgh region will see anywhere from 2" to 5" of snowfall over a 24-hour period starting early Friday.

The predicted snowstorm that closed schools and caused traffic restrictions Monday failed to live up to the hype in many parts of Western Pennsylvania — at least so far. Officials had expected 2 to 4 inches of snow in the Pittsburgh area and higher accumulations south of Interstate 70.
