Washington state's latest gas tax has increased the total tax to over 55 cents per gallon, making it the third-highest gas tax in the country.

Starting Tuesday, your wallets will start to feel a bit of a squeeze as the six-cent gas tax increase kicks in.

Lawmakers considered other ways to fund the state's megaprojects, highway maintenance and ferries, but stuck with the gas tax because of its low overhead.
