The garbage collection company embroiled in a nationwide worker strike, also impacting trash collection in several Bay Area cities, has asked customers to continue leaving their bins outside.

As garbage continues to accumulate across roughly two dozen Bay Area cities impacted by a nationwide Teamsters strike, Republic Services has begun deploying "substitute drivers" in a limited effort to restore trash collection services.

Local leaders told Republic Services Friday they will be seeking compensation for extra costs they’ve taken on amid the ongoing strike of trash collection workers.
