July 15, 2025 (Portland, OR) – Today, Portland’s WNBA expansion team proudly unveils its new name and brand identity: the Portland Fire. Based in the global epicenter of women’s sports, the Portland Fire is rooted in the resilience, spirit, and passion for sport that defines the Rose City.

The logo isn't perfect and the name has issues, but the support for Portland's WNBA franchise was overwhelming on the day the Fire officially launched.

The WNBA's return to Portland has been years in the making, but there are several more steps that the team will need to take before its debut in 2026.

The first-ever global women’s sports Epicenter Week is happening only in Portland and kicks off on July 23. It comes on the heels of the huge party Tuesday night at the Moda Center for the unveiling of the Portland Fire’s logo and name. Epicenter week starts next Wednesday with Portland Thorns Community Day.
