Days after deadly flooding hit New Jersey, the region was hit with more storms on July 16, killing one person.
A tornado warning has been issued for parts of Ocean County in New Jersey until 11:30 p.m. Parts of Atlantic County were also originally included in the warning, but the warning has expired there. The National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located northeast of Atlantic City at 11:16 p.m.
Simon Mariani was competing in an all-day Iron Man competition at Hamburg’s Ballyowen Golf Course on July 8, when a fast-moving storm swept through the area. He was struck by a bolt of lightning while he played the 15th hole, prompting the other golfers to spring into action.
The rain fell in two waves, said Gov. Phil Murphy, with the first knocking communities 'off kilter' and the second 'came in for the kill.'
