The Justice Department under President Trump formally asked a court Friday to dismiss corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, an expected move after that was fiercely opposed by the federal prosecutors in Manhattan who brought the case.

The Justice Department's motion to drop charges against Mayor Adams ends a days-long public over the decision to abandon the case.

Manhattan’s top federal prosecutor and five high-ranking Justice Department officials have resigned over the order.
