Family, friends, and fellow officers gathered Friday to lay Illinois State Trooper Clay Carns to rest. Carns, a 35-year-old husband and father of two, was hit and killed by a driver on Interstate 55 near Channahon last week while clearing debris from the road.

CHICAGO (CBS) — A visitation is planned on Thursday to honor Illinois State Police trooper Clay Carns. The 35-year-old trooper was hit and killed by a car two days before Christmas on I-55 near Channahon.

ORLAND PARK, Ill. - A fallen Illinois State Trooper is being remembered in the suburbs on Thursday. Clay Carns, 35, lost his life while on duty last week. He was killed Dec. 23, just before Christmas Eve, along I-55 near Channahon when he was struck by a pickup truck while removing debris from the southbound lanes.

The funeral for Trooper Carns will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Parkview Christian Church, 11100 Orland Parkway in Orland Park, Illinois. A private Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trooper Clay Carns Memorial fund.
