Anna University Sexual Assault: Madras HC Directs To Form All-Women SIT, Orders Rs 25 Lakh Compensation
The Madras High Court on Saturday ordered to constitute an all-women Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IPS officers to investigate the Anna University sexual assault case. The court also directed Tamil Nadu government to pay Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the victim in connection with the FIR leak with the details of the women published on the police website.

A second-year student of Anna University was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused on the university campus on December 23. The accused, 37-year-old Gnanasekharan, who works as a food vendor, was arrested by police from Kotturpuram.

The court also took firm action regarding the breach of the victim's privacy and the leak of the FIR, ordering the Tamil Nadu government to compensate the victim with Rs 25 lakh in recognition of the trauma caused by the FIR's disclosure.

Judges directed the Tamil Nadu Government to pay a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the victim for the trauma caused due to leakage of FIR. The court also directed Anna University to provide free education as well as boarding, lodging and counselling facilities to the victim to continue her studies.
