I wish I could help you better. I visited my son last fall who is stationed at Fort Eustis. We had also visited the battleships down at the end of the peninsula. It's not all that far away, if I had a map I could tell you one road that just about goes straight to the base. Good luck. The museum is worth the hunt!

Three years ago I tried to visit the Fort Eustis museum. Although I had a British passport as photo ID, I was searched and excluded as an alien. The Museum website did not then, and does not now, point out that foreign visitors will be kept out, unless they have a serving military sponsor who is present on site and is willing to accompany them during their visit. As I have visited the museum twice before in the last thirty years I recognise the quality and interest of the exhibition.

that's terrible. I'm not a representative of the museum and I'm pretty sure that I Ve taken for granted me having a military ID card. I also have foreign exchange students who have been to the museum without me. they go into the civilian inspection station, receive a day pass, and viola...a day at the museum and bowling alley and food places and post office and the beach. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience.

Q:
do you have to have a military ID to visit the museum? if not, is there a different entrance for those without one?
A:
You don't need a military ID. It is open to the public. They would however search your car before letting you enter the base. The museum is inside the military base.
