I went on the MLK holiday so admission was free. Nice museum, interesting fort and plenty of good trail choices. I lucked out with a sunny day which doesn't always happen in January!Full review by Julie B

by now you've seen the various answers and opinions and I concur with them. We take visitors there frequently and I find a couple of hours is sufficient if no children with you. See the film first and see what time the ranger is making his talks, as they are really informative. I've hiked the trail but unless you just want to travel their path to obtain water, not really worth the hike; and it's steep.

I wish I could help but when I went I was on the American Empress Riverboat and took the tour through them - so we we were on a bus which took us here and several other spots. I would check around and see if you can find a "tour" company that offers tours - they would also provide the transportation. Otherwise rent a car?

Are pets allowed on the trails?

I believe leashed pets are ok around the grounds and trails. Not sure about the buildings and visitor center.
